When a movie stirs up multiple emotions I think it’s a success. While watching The Hurt Locker I was often on the edge of my seat in anticipation, had tears in my eyes due to the reality and someway still managed to chuckle several times. The main emotion I felt was gratitude to the men and women who fight for our country.
This film is appropriately rated "R" because it gives a very clear depiction of what I imagine war is and the raw emotions of those fighting. However, it isn’t a movie with a political agenda; instead it is a drama-suspense that allows you to see into the heart and soul of three men who are teamed together on a bomb squad unit in Iraq.
I am not very familiar with the three main actors (Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie & Brian Geraghty) but based on their acting in this film, we will be seeing more of them. In addition to the main characters there are cameos by Ralph Fiennes and Evangeline Lilly (Lost).
Usually when I see a weekday matinee, there are more women than men in the audience. Today this wasn't the case, approximately 60-70% of the audience was male. There were men in groups of 2-3, ranging in age from their 20's to 70's. They may have been buddies, father-son, grandfather-son but the theatre was definitely dominated by males.
Based on this I would say MEN want to RACE To This Movie, WOMEN might be more prone to JOG To This Movie and if you are looking for a DATE NIGHT movie I recommend a compromise so grab your sweetie and RUN To This Movie an excellent thriller that will leave you feeling thankful and a bit surprised by the ending.
